### Endometriosis Foundation of Houston Launches Healing Hou Scholarship Program to Support Individuals with Endometriosis

HOUSTON, TX - October 1, 2024 - The Endometriosis Foundation of Houston (EFHou), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness and providing support for individuals affected by endometriosis, is proud to announce the launch of its newly expanded Healing Hou Scholarship Program. This initiative aims to enhance access to care for those living with endometriosis in the Greater Houston Area.

Endometriosis is a chronic condition affecting approximately 200 million individuals worldwide. It is characterized by the presence of endometriotic lesions, which can lead to debilitating pain and a range of other symptoms, including fatigue, digestive issues, and infertility.

This year, EFHou is excited to include a scholarship for mental health services in addition to pelvic floor physical therapy, recognizing the need for a holistic approach to treatment. In collaboration with experienced practitioners Bianca Asteris, MSW, LCSW, of Silver Linings Counseling Services, and Tessa Matus, PT, DPT, of Empower Yourself PT, the program will offer:

- One (1) mental health scholarship

- Two (2) pelvic floor physical therapy scholarships

Each scholarship provides up to twelve (12) therapy sessions per recipient.

“We know how difficult it can be to access care for those of us struggling with endometriosis. It is an expensive and difficult disease. While, we can't pay for excision or cure endometriosis, we hope that we can ease the burden of care for members of our community through this scholarship initiative” said Alison Landolt, President and Co-Founder of EFHou. “Endometriosis is a complex disease that requires a comprehensive treatment approach, and we are committed to helping individuals navigate their healing journeys.”

Eligibility Criteria:

- Must be 18 years of age or older

- Must reside in the Greater Houston Area

- Must struggle with endometriosis

- Must demonstrate difficulty affording medical care

Applicants are encouraged to apply for both scholarships; however, only one scholarship will be awarded per individual. Applications and supporting documents must be submitted via email to healinghou@gmail.com by December 31, 2024.

About the Practitioners:

- Tessa Matus, PT, DPT specializes in pelvic floor physical therapy, offering trauma-informed care for individuals experiencing chronic pain and related symptoms. She aims to create a welcoming and judgment-free environment for her patients.

- Bianca Asteris, MSW, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience. She provides therapy for those dealing with anxiety, trauma, and chronic health issues, drawing from her own experiences with endometriosis.
